The Institute for Meteorological Training and Research (IMTR) was established in 1964 and became a World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Regional Training Centre in 1965. It provides training in meteorology, hydrology, and related geosciences, with a mandate to enhance capacity for delivering meteorological services across Africa.

CEO: Edward M. Muriuki

Edward M. Muriuki serves as Acting Director at the Institute for Meteorological Training and Research (IMTR) in Kenya. With a BSc in Meteorology, a Postgraduate Diploma in Operational Hydrology, and an MSc in Water Resources Engineering, Muriuki joined the Kenya Meteorological Department in 1991, gaining extensive experience in various meteorological services​
