The Kenya Academy of Sports (KAS), established under the Sports Act, 2013, focuses on enhancing sports training and talent development across the country. Its mandate includes establishing sports academies, conducting technical courses for sports personnel, promoting research, and collaborating with academic institutions. KAS also plays a role in preserving and disseminating historical sports materials, analyzing training data, and keeping up with global sports trends. By fostering talent and providing essential resources, KAS aims to elevate Kenya’s sporting capabilities and contribute to its success on the international stage.
CEO: Dr. Doreen Odhiambo
Dr. Odhiambo, CEO of Kenya Academy of Sports since 2019, has over 25 years of experience in sports administration, including with the Ministry of Sports, Culture, and Heritage. She holds a Doctorate from the University of Central Lancashire (2015), an MBA in Strategic Management from Kenyatta University (2011), and an International Master’s in Management, Law, and Humanities of Sports from FIFA (2007). She is also a certified coach in netball and pool, and a Beach Lifesaving coach.

Functions
- Establish Sports Academies: KAS is responsible for setting up and managing sports training academies across Kenya.
- Training for Technical Personnel: Organizes and administers courses for sports technical and administration personnel.
- Promote Research: Collaborates with academic institutions to promote research in sports and athlete development.
- Talent Development: Focuses on identifying and nurturing talent in various sports disciplines.
- Sports Infrastructure Development: Supports the creation and enhancement of sports facilities and infrastructure.
- Preservation of Sports History: Collects and disseminates tangible and intangible historical sports material for public and institutional use.
- Data Analysis and Feedback: Analyzes training requirements from sports organizations and provides data-driven insights.
- Global Collaboration: Links with other institutions and organizations for regular updates on sports trends and best practices.
- Capacity Building: Enhances the capacity of sports organizations through training and knowledge exchange.
- Contribute to National Sports Success: Plays a key role in strengthening Kenya’s sports sector and international competitiveness
