Kenya National Youth Council

Overview

The Kenya National Youth Council (KNYC), established under the Kenya National Youth Council Act, 2009, began operations in 2012. It serves as the official voice of the youth in Kenya, promoting their participation in governance and national development. Its mandate includes advocating for youth-friendly policies, facilitating youth empowerment programs, and fostering collaboration with stakeholders. KNYC also addresses issues affecting the youth, such as unemployment, education, and health, while promoting patriotism, national unity, and social justice. It aims to integrate youth contributions into decision-making at all levels.

CEO: Gloria Wawira

Gloria Wawira, acting CEO of Kenya National Youth Council, is a lawyer and public policy expert. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi and a postgraduate diploma from the Kenya School of Law. With 8+ years in governance, she specializes in energy and technology policy​.

Functions

  • Fostering Unity: Promote national unity, patriotism, and social cohesion among young people.
  • Resource Mobilization: Mobilize resources to support youth development projects and initiatives.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Oversee the effectiveness of youth programs and assess their impact on national development.
