The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) was established under the Kenya Revenue Authority Act, Cap 469, and began operations on July 1, 1995. It is responsible for assessing, collecting, and accounting for government revenue, including taxes and customs duties. KRA enforces tax laws, promotes compliance, and combats tax evasion to boost national revenue. It operates under the National Treasury and supports economic growth by ensuring an efficient tax system. KRA also modernizes tax administration through digital platforms like iTax to enhance transparency, efficiency, and service delivery to taxpayers.
Commissioner General: Humphrey Wattanga
Mr. Wattanga is a corporate finance expert with over 20 years of experience. He was Managing Director at Meghraj Capital Group and served as Vice Chair of the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA). He played a key role in Kenya’s M-Akiba bond and county revenue systems. Wattanga holds an MBA from Wharton (University of Pennsylvania) and a Biochemical Sciences degree from Harvard University (cum laude).

Functions
