Competition Authority of Kenya

Overview

The Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) was established under the Competition Act, No. 12 of 2010 and began operations on August 1, 2011. It promotes and safeguards competition, prevents unfair trade practices, and protects consumer rights in Kenya. CAK regulates mergers, monopolies, and anti-competitive behavior to ensure fair market conditions. It investigates restrictive trade practices, enhances consumer welfare, and enforces compliance with competition laws. The authority also advocates for pro-competition policies and educates businesses and consumers on fair competition, fostering economic growth and a level playing field for all market participants.

Mr. David Kibet holds a Bachelor of Commerce and an MBA from the University
of Nairobi. A qualified public accountant and Certified Regulation Specialist, he has over 30 years of experience across various sectors, including regulatory, financial, academia, health, tourism, and energy.

  • Advocating for Pro-Competition Policies – Advises the government on policies that promote market efficiency.
  • Educating Businesses and Consumers – Conducts awareness programs on competition laws and consumer rights.
  • Monitoring Market Practices – Analyzes market trends and conducts studies to identify anti-competitive behavior.
