The Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI) is pivotal in promoting industrialization through research and technology development. Established in 1980, KIRDI’s mandate includes conducting research, developing technologies, and offering industrial consultancy services. It supports innovation in various sectors, enhances local manufacturing capabilities, and contributes to national economic growth by facilitating sustainable industrial practices​.

CEO: Dr.-Ing Calvin Onyango

Dr.-Ing. Calvin Onyango, Director-General, holds a PhD in Bioprocess
Engineering from Technische Universitaet Dresden, and Masters and
Bachelor’s degrees in Food Science from the University of Nairobi.
He has extensive research experience, widely published work,
significant conference contributions, and numerous awards
recognizing his impactful research in food science and technology.
