The Business Registration Service (BRS), established under the Business Registration Service Act, 2015, began operations in 2016. It is a semi-autonomous government agency under Kenya’s Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice. BRS oversees the registration and regulation of businesses, including companies, partnerships, and sole proprietorships. Its mandate includes maintaining registries of companies, ensuring compliance with business laws, and facilitating ease of doing business. Additionally, BRS handles insolvency processes, registers security rights, and supports efficient and transparent business regulation to boost Kenya’s economic growth.

Mr. Kenneth Gathuma, HSC, is the Director General of the Business Registration Service (BRS) in Kenya. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law and a Master’s in Business Administration. With over 20 years of experience in public service, he has held senior positions in various government departments, driving reforms.
Functions
- Registration of Companies: Facilitates the incorporation and registration of companies under the Companies Act, 2015.
