The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), established in 1992 under the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority Act (No. 21 of 1991), is responsible for regulating and overseeing civil aviation activities in Kenya. Its mandate includes ensuring aviation safety and security, enforcing international standards, and promoting the development of Kenya’s aviation sector. KCAA manages air traffic control, certification of aircraft and personnel, and the development of aviation infrastructure. The authority also plays a vital role in fostering regional and international cooperation in civil aviation, contributing to the growth of Kenya as an aviation hub.

Functions
- Aviation Safety and Security: Ensure the safety and security of air transport by enforcing national and international aviation regulations.
- Air Traffic Management: Manage and regulate air traffic control services to ensure the safe movement of aircraft within Kenya’s airspace.
- Aviation Licensing and Certification: Certify and license aircraft, air operators, and aviation personnel to comply with aviation standards.
- Regulation Enforcement: Develop and enforce regulations that govern civil aviation activities in Kenya, ensuring compliance with ICAO standards.
- Accident Investigation: Investigate aviation accidents and incidents to determine causes and improve safety measures.
- Aviation Infrastructure Development: Oversee the development, improvement, and maintenance of airports, airstrips, and other aviation-related infrastructure.
- Airspace Management: Administer the airspace in Kenya, ensuring safe and efficient use for domestic and international flights.
- Training and Capacity Building: Provide training programs and certification for aviation professionals, including pilots, engineers, and air traffic controllers.
- Aviation Industry Promotion: Promote the growth and development of Kenya’s aviation industry to enhance regional connectivity and economic growth.
- International Cooperation: Represent Kenya in regional and international aviation forums, ensuring compliance with global aviation standards and agreements.
