Overview

The Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA), established in 1979 under the Kerio Valley Development Authority Act, Cap 441, focuses on the sustainable development of the Kerio Valley region. KVDA oversees the planning, coordination, and implementation of projects in natural resource management, irrigation, water supply, and environmental conservation. It promotes agricultural productivity, infrastructure development, and community empowerment to enhance livelihoods in the region. By integrating modern techniques and working with local communities, KVDA aims to achieve food security, mitigate environmental challenges, and foster socio-economic growth in the Kerio Valley and its environs.

CEO: Sammy Naporos

Mr. Sammy Naporos is the Managing Director of the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA). He holds a strong academic background and professional experience in regional development and management. Previously, he served as the Managing Director of the Ewaso Ng’iro South Development Authority (ENSDA), where he led various sustainable development initiatives.

Functions

  • Natural Resource Management: Oversee the sustainable utilization and conservation of resources within the Kerio Valley region, including water, forests, and minerals.
  • Irrigation Development: Promote and implement irrigation schemes to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure food security.
  • Water Resource Development: Develop infrastructure for water supply and management, including for domestic, agricultural, and industrial use.
  • Environmental Conservation: Implement programs to protect ecosystems, prevent soil erosion, and combat desertification in the region.
  • Infrastructure Development: Facilitate the construction of roads, dams, and other infrastructure to support regional development.
  • Agricultural Advancement: Support modern farming techniques, agroforestry, and value addition to boost agricultural production.
  • Research and Development: Conduct studies on resource utilization, regional challenges, and opportunities for sustainable development.
  • Community Empowerment: Engage and empower local communities through capacity building and participation in development projects.
  • Economic Promotion: Facilitate industrial and commercial ventures, particularly those leveraging local resources, to drive economic growth.
