The Women Enterprise Fund in Kenya, established under the Women Enterprise Fund Act of 2009, began operations in 2007 to enhance women’s economic empowerment. Its mandate is to provide financial support and promote access to credit for women entrepreneurs. The Fund offers loans, training, and business development services to enable women to start and grow businesses. It aims to increase women’s participation in the economy, create jobs, and reduce poverty. By fostering entrepreneurship, the Women Enterprise Fund contributes to gender equality and supports women in achieving financial independence and sustainability.

CEO: Rachel Musyoki

Racheal Musyoki is the new CEO of the Women Enterprise Fund (WEF) in Kenya. She brings extensive expertise in corporate governance, strategic management, and program development. Previously, she served as Chairperson of the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), where she demonstrated strong leadership in empowering women and managing impactful initiatives.

Functions

  • Financial Support – Provide accessible and affordable loans to women entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses.
  • Capacity Building – Offer training programs and workshops to enhance women’s entrepreneurial skills and business management capabilities.
  • Business Development Services – Provide technical assistance and advisory services to help women entrepreneurs develop viable business plans and strategies.
  • Networking Opportunities – Facilitate networking and partnership opportunities among women entrepreneurs to encourage collaboration and resource sharing.
  • Market Access – Assist women-owned businesses in accessing markets and promoting their products and services.
  • Policy Advocacy – Advocate for policies and frameworks that promote gender equality and support women’s economic empowerment.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation – Monitor the impact of funded projects and evaluate the effectiveness of the Fund’s programs in promoting women’s entrepreneurship.
  • Resource Mobilization – Engage in efforts to mobilize additional resources and partnerships to support women’s entrepreneurship initiatives.
  • Research and Data Collection – Conduct research on the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs and gather data to inform policy and program development.
  • Public Awareness Campaigns – Run campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of women’s economic empowerment and the resources available through the Fund.
