The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) was established under the National Cohesion and Integration Act, No. 12 of 2008, and began its operations in 2009. The Commission’s mandate is to promote national unity, peaceful coexistence, and integration among Kenyans. Its key roles include addressing ethnic discrimination, promoting diversity, preventing hate speech, and fostering reconciliation after political conflicts. NCIC also works to eliminate ethnic tensions and build a cohesive society through education, public awareness, and policy recommendations. It plays a critical role in enhancing harmony in Kenya’s multi-ethnic society.

Mr. Harrison Kariuki is the acting CEO/Secretary and Director of Corporate Services. He is a seasoned Public Finance Expert with over 16 years of work experience in public and private sector finance and Audit. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Finance from the University of Leicester, UK, a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and a Certificate of Public Accounting qualification from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).

Functions
- Promote National Unity – Foster peaceful and harmonious coexistence among all communities in Kenya.
- Prevent Ethnic Discrimination – Address and eliminate ethnic-based discrimination.
- Monitor Hate Speech – Investigate and prosecute hate speech and incitement to violence.
- Promote Diversity – Advocate for fair representation of all ethnic groups in public institutions.
- Prevent Conflict – Intervene and mediate in conflicts related to ethnic tensions.
- Foster Reconciliation – Facilitate reconciliation and healing in post-conflict situations.
- Promote Dialogue – Encourage national dialogue and understanding among communities.
- Conduct Civic Education – Raise awareness on national cohesion through campaigns and education.
- Research and Policy – Conduct research and provide policy recommendations on national integration.
- Investigate Offences – Investigate complaints regarding ethnic or racial discrimination and take appropriate actions.
