The Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Kenya-AIST), operational since 2022, is a specialized institution focused on postgraduate education, research, and training in science, technology, and engineering. Located in Konza Technopolis, its mandate is to drive Kenya’s technological and economic growth by producing highly skilled professionals. Modeled after the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Kenya-AIST aims to foster innovation and contribute to the country’s transformation into a knowledge-driven economy. It also plays a key role in advancing scientific research and development.

Prof. J. W. Khamasi is the Acting Principal of the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (Kenya-AIST), having assumed the role in July 2022. With over 15 years of experience in higher education management, she previously served as the Registrar for Academic Affairs & Research at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) from 2014 to 2022. Prof. Khamasi has held various positions at Moi University, including contributing to the establishment of the Institute for Gender Equity, Research, and Development (IGERD). She holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia and is a published author with a focus on vulnerable learners.
