Functions
- Electricity Generation: Generating electricity through various technologies, including geothermal, hydroelectric, thermal, and wind, to power homes, businesses, and industries across Kenya.
- Renewable Energy Development: Prioritizing renewable energy to increase the share of clean, sustainable sources in Kenya’s energy mix, especially focusing on geothermal, wind, and solar power.
- Power Supply to National Grid: Ensuring a steady and reliable supply of power to the national grid, helping to balance supply and demand to prevent shortages.
- Infrastructure Development and Maintenance: Constructing, upgrading, and maintaining power generation infrastructure to ensure the longevity, safety, and efficiency of power plants and facilities.
- Geothermal Resource Exploration and Development: Leading Kenya’s efforts in geothermal exploration, drilling, and harnessing of geothermal energy, given Kenya’s vast geothermal resources, particularly in the Rift Valley.
- Increasing Generation Capacity: Expanding generation capacity by building new plants and optimizing existing ones to keep pace with Kenya’s growing energy demands and support national economic growth.
- Environmental Sustainability and Conservation: Embracing eco-friendly policies and projects that reduce carbon emissions and environmental impact, aligning with Kenya’s climate change commitments.
- Research, Innovation, and Technology Advancement: Investing in research and adopting innovative technologies to enhance power generation efficiency, reduce costs, and introduce cutting-edge renewable energy solutions.
- Project Development and Management: Overseeing the planning, development, financing, and management of new energy generation projects, from conception through to execution and long-term operation.
