Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) began in 1972 as the Western College of Arts and Applied Sciences (WECO). It became a constituent college of Moi University in 2002 and achieved full university status in 2007 under its current name. Located in Kakamega, Kenya, MMUST offers diverse programs in science, technology, engineering, arts, and humanities, focusing on research, innovation, and community engagement. Governed by The Universities Act, 2012, it is committed to advancing knowledge and fostering socio-economic development through education, training, and partnerships in Kenya and beyond.
Vice-Chancellor: Prof. Solomon Igosangwa Shibairo
Prof. Solomon Igosangwa Shibairo, Vice-Chancellor of Masinde Muliro University of
Science and Technology since 2021, holds a BSc in Agriculture and an MSc in Agronomy from the University of Nairobi, and a PhD in Plant Science from the University of British Columbia. His career includes roles as Associate Professor at the University of Nairobi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Student Affairs) at Kibabii University, and Acting Vice-Chancellor at MMUST. He specializes in horticulture and agronomy.
