Maseno University

Overview

Maseno University, established in 1991 as a constituent college of Moi University, began operations to provide higher education in Kenya. Located along the equator in Kisumu County, it officially became a full-fledged university in 2001 upon receiving its charter. Governed by The Universities Act, 2012, it offers diverse programs in education, science, arts, and business. Renowned for innovation and academic excellence, Maseno integrates information technology into its curriculum. The university continues to expand its influence as a leading institution for research, learning, and community service in the region.

Vice-Chancellor: Prof. Julius Gordon Tanui

Prof. Julius O. Nyabundi, Vice-Chancellor of Maseno University since March 2016, holds a BSc and MSc from the University of Nairobi and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis. His career includes serving as Principal of Murang’a University College, Managing Director of Chemelil Sugar Company, and lecturer at the University of Nairobi. In July 2022, he was appointed Chairperson of the Kenya National Examinations Council.
