The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), established under the Universities Act No. 42 of 2012, began operations in 2014. It is mandated to manage the centralized placement of students to universities and colleges in Kenya. KUCCPS ensures equitable access to higher education by providing career guidance, validating qualifications, and aligning students with appropriate courses based on their preferences and performance. It also collaborates with institutions to align training with market needs, fostering national development through a skilled and competitive workforce. KUCCPS enhances transparency and efficiency in admissions processes.

CEO: Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome

Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome, an accomplished educationist, holds a PhD in Educational
Psychology from Kenyatta University. She has extensive experience in higher education, previously serving as a lecturer, researcher, and university administrator. Currently leading KUCCPS, she champions equitable student placements and alignment of training with national development needs.

Functions

  • Student Placement Coordination: Facilitates the centralized placement of government-sponsored students into public and private universities, national polytechnics, and technical training institutions, ensuring transparency and fairness in the process.
  • Admission Criteria Development: Formulates and implements standardized criteria for the selection of students into various programs, ensuring merit-based and equitable admission processes.
  • Career Guidance and Advisory Services: Provides career counseling to students and parents to assist in making informed decisions regarding courses and institutions that match individual interests and market demands.
  • Validation of Qualifications: Verifies student qualifications to confirm eligibility for placement into specific programs, ensuring only qualified candidates are admitted.
  • Program Alignment with Market Needs: Collaborates with institutions to design and align academic and training programs with Kenya’s economic and labor market needs, promoting skills development and employability.
  • Data Management and Analysis: Maintains a comprehensive database of students and admissions, which is used for tracking, reporting, and supporting strategic planning in higher education.
  • Equity and Inclusivity: Implements affirmative action policies to enhance access for marginalized, disadvantaged, and special-needs groups, ensuring equity in education opportunities.
  • Private Institution Support: Facilitates placements in accredited private universities and colleges, expanding access to higher education beyond public institutions.
  • Policy Implementation and Advice: Implements government policies on access, equity, and quality in higher education and advises on reforms needed to enhance the education system.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration: Works with universities, colleges, industries, and other stakeholders to improve education quality, relevance, and responsiveness to national and global challenges.
