The Co-operative University of Kenya, established in 2007 as the Co-operative University College of Kenya, gained full university status in 2016. Located in Nairobi, the university specializes in education, research, and training in the fields of co-operative development, business, economics, and social sciences. Its mission is to promote sustainable development through the cooperative movement by offering high-quality academic programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The university engages in applied research and community outreach to empower co-operative societies, enhance entrepreneurship, and contribute to the economic growth of Kenya and beyond.
Vice Chancellor : Professor Kamau Ngamau
Prof. Kamau Ngamau is a seasoned academic leader and Horticulture expert. He holds a Ph.D. in Horticultural Sciences from the University of Hanover, Germany, and degrees in Agriculture and Organizational Development. Rising from Assistant Lecturer to Professor at JKUAT, he has served in key academic and administrative roles, fostering excellence.

Functions
- Provision of Education: Offer high-quality undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programs in co-operative management, business, economics, and related fields.
- Research and Innovation: Conduct research focused on co-operative development, economic growth, and sustainable community development.
- Community Engagement: Engage with co-operative societies and communities to enhance their capacity for social and economic development.
- Cooperative Capacity Building: Provide training and capacity-building programs to strengthen co-operatives and promote the cooperative movement in Kenya and beyond.
- Policy Development: Contribute to policy formulation on co-operatives, entrepreneurship, and community development at national and international levels.
- Entrepreneurship Development: Foster entrepreneurship and innovation among students and the broader community to drive economic development.
- Partnerships and Collaboration: Build strategic partnerships with national, regional, and international institutions to promote the co-operative agenda and facilitate research and knowledge exchange.
- Quality Assurance: Maintain high academic standards through continuous evaluation of programs, teaching methodologies, and learning outcomes.
- Leadership Development: Nurture leadership skills in students, preparing them for managerial and leadership roles in co-operatives, business, and public service.
