Naserian Nasaruni Primary School, often referred to as Nasaruni Academy for Maasai Girls, is a non-profit educational institution founded in 2013 by Alice Sayo and faculty from James Madison University to empower the Maasai community in Narok, Kenya. Serving as a “haven” (the meaning of Nasaruni in the Maa language), the school provides a safe environment and quality education to approximately 300 girls, many of whom are rescued from harmful cultural practices such as child marriage and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The academy follows the standard Kenyan curriculum, offering subjects like English, Swahili, and sciences, while also providing essential services like boarding facilities, nutritious meals, and life-skills training. Through its comprehensive programs, the school aims to transform students into independent leaders, significantly increasing the rate of Maasai girls pursuing secondary and higher education.
