Established in 1999 in the Mosiro region of Kajiado County, Naning’oi Girls Boarding Primary School serves as a vital sanctuary and public education hub for young Maasai girls. Originally founded with the support of ChildFund Kenya and later handed over to the government, the school functions as a dedicated rescue centre for girls fleeing female genital mutilation (FGM) and forced early marriages. It is the only female-focused facility within a 500-square-kilometre radius, providing a safe boarding environment where students can pursue free primary education without the threat of being withdrawn for cultural reasons. Following a period of decline, the school was revitalized in 2017 through the efforts of alumnus Selina Nkoile and the Nashipai Maasai Community Projects, which now provides critical support including food programs, borehole repairs, and mentorship. Today, the institution hosts over 400 girls and continues to use education and sustainable initiatives, such as school gardens and community outreach, to break the cycle of poverty and cultural violence in the region.
