Mathare Technical Special

Mathare Vocational Training Centre (MVTC), widely known as Mathare Technical Special or Udungu Polytechnic, is a registered TVET institution under TVETA dedicated to providing market-driven technical skills to post-primary and post-secondary school leavers in Nairobi’s Mathare Sub-County. Located off Juja Road near the divisional administrative office, the center offers a diverse curriculum—including motor vehicle technology, electrical engineering, ICT, and fashion design—with assessments conducted by KNEC and NITA to ensure professional certification. The institution is particularly recognized for its inclusive focus on persons with disabilities (PWDs), operating specialized workshops where students with intellectual or physical disabilities produce goods like school uniforms and furniture to foster self-reliance. As of late 2025, the center continues to expand its impact through subsidized vocational training funds and initiatives like the KUCCPS application assistance, serving as a vital socio-economic hub that empowers vulnerable youth with sustainable livelihoods.
