Karura Forest Primary

Established in 1939 to serve the children of forest workers during the colonial era, Karura Forest Primary School is a public, mixed-gender day institution located in the Highridge area of Nairobi, within the grounds of the Kenya Forest Service headquarters. The school currently hosts approximately 232 students across 16 classrooms, maintaining a small community atmosphere focused on accessible education. Despite its historical roots and modest facilities, the school has gained recognition for innovation, notably winning a national runner-up trophy for creating an energy-saving stove that converts organic material into bio-charcoal. In 2025, the school continues to undergo growth, with plans to expand into Grade 9 under Kenya’s evolving curriculum and ongoing efforts by leadership and stakeholders to upgrade its infrastructure, including requests for improved library facilities and classrooms.
