Overview

The Kenya Leather Development Council (KLDC) was established under the Kenya Leather Development Council Act, No. 12 of 2008 and began operations in 2009. The Council is tasked with promoting and developing Kenya’s leather industry by improving the quality, production, and marketing of leather products. KLDC works to enhance the competitiveness of the sector, providing technical support, training, and facilitating market access for local producers. It also plays a key role in policy formulation, advocacy, and ensuring adherence to industry standards, thereby contributing to economic growth and job creation in Kenya

Dr. Issack M. Noor holds a Ph.D. in Leather Technology and has extensive experience in the leather industry. He has worked in various leadership roles, focusing on industry development, quality standards, and market
access for leather products. Dr. Noor is committed to enhancing the growth and competitiveness of Kenya’s leather sector.

  • Regulation of Leather Production – Monitors and regulates the leather production process to ensure compliance with industry standards and environmental regulations.
  • Policy Advocacy – Advocates for favorable policies that support the growth of the leather industry, both locally and internationally.
  • Support for Leather SMEs – Provides assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the leather sector to improve their productivity and sustainability.
  • Sector Coordination – Coordinates stakeholders in the leather value chain, including manufacturers, suppliers, and traders, to foster collaboration.
  • Sustainable Leather Practices – Promotes environmentally sustainable practices in leather production, focusing on waste reduction and eco-friendly processes.
