The Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) was established in 2011 under the Engineers Act, 2011 to regulate the engineering profession in Kenya. It is responsible for the registration, licensing, and oversight of engineers and engineering firms to ensure compliance with professional standards. EBK also ensures the continuous professional development of engineers, promotes best practices in the industry, and safeguards public safety. The Board plays a critical role in enhancing the quality of engineering practices across various sectors, supporting the country’s infrastructure and development goals.

Eng. Margaret Ogai holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration (Procurement) and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi. Eng. Ogai is a registered Consulting Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK). She oversees the implementation of EBK’s strategic goals and provides leadership in achieving the Board’s mission.

Functions

- Quality Assurance: Ensure that engineering practices meet the required standards for public safety and environmental protection.
- Promotion of Best Practices: Advocate for the adoption of best engineering practices in both public and private sectors.
- Regulation of Engineering Education: Approve and monitor engineering programs in institutions to ensure quality education.
- Disciplinary Action: Investigate complaints, conduct hearings, and take disciplinary action against engineers and firms violating regulations.
- Advisory Role: Advise the government on engineering matters related to national development and infrastructure projects.
- Public Awareness: Promote public awareness of engineering standards, safety, and the role of engineers in national development.
- Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work with local and international professional bodies, universities, and government agencies to advance the engineering profession.
