The Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KIHBT) was established in 1974 to provide specialized training and research in highways, building technology, and civil engineering. Initially set up to address the technical skills gap in Kenya’s infrastructure sector, KIHBT focuses on education, capacity building, and development of professionals in road construction and building fields. The institution operates under the Kenya Roads Act, No. 2 of 2007 and is affiliated with the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), contributing to national infrastructure development through its training programs and research initiatives.

Eng. Henry Nyakwaka is the Director of the Kenya Institute of Highways and Building
Technology (KIHBT). A seasoned civil engineer and educator, he has extensive expertise in infrastructure development and technical training. Eng. Nyakwaka is dedicated to advancing Kenya’s construction industry through skill development and innovative educational programs.
