The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) was established in 2008 under the Kenya Roads Act, No. 2 of 2007. It is tasked with the planning, development, rehabilitation, and maintenance of urban roads in Kenya’s cities, towns, and municipalities. KURA focuses on improving urban mobility, enhancing road infrastructure, and ensuring safe and efficient transportation within urban areas. Its mandate includes managing road projects, coordinating road network planning, and promoting sustainable urban transport systems. The authority plays a crucial role in supporting economic growth through improved
urban connectivity and mobility.

With over 25 years of experience in infrastructure development, he has held key positions in both public and private sectors. His expertise spans urban road planning, design, and project management.

Functions
- Develop and Maintain Urban Roads: Oversee the planning, design, and upkeep of urban road networks in cities and municipalities.
- Coordinate Road Projects: Manage and implement road infrastructure projects to improve urban mobility.
- Ensure Road Safety: Promote safety by implementing measures such as signage, traffic control, and road designs that enhance security.
- Road Network Management: Monitor the condition of urban roads and facilitate repairs, upgrades, and extensions.
- Promote Sustainable Transport Systems: Encourage environmentally friendly transportation solutions in urban areas.
- Implement Urban Transport Plans: Develop and execute comprehensive plans for urban road development and public transport integration.
- Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work with local authorities, government bodies, and private sector partners to improve road infrastructure.
- Advise the Government: Provide technical expertise and recommendations on urban road policies and strategies.
- Enhance Economic Development: Support infrastructure improvements that boost trade, commerce, and general urban economic growth.
- Monitor and Evaluate Projects: Assess ongoing road projects to ensure quality, timeliness, and budget adherence.
