Technical University of Mombasa

Overview

The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) began its operations in 2013 as a fully-fledged university, having previously been Mombasa Polytechnic University College (MPUC), a constituent college of the University of Nairobi. TUM was established through the Technical Universities Act, 2016, which granted it full autonomy and recognized its status as a technical university. The institution specializes in offering technical, engineering, and vocational education programs, aiming to provide practical skills for industry and innovation. TUM serves as a hub for education and research, contributing to the region’s economic and technological development.

Vice Chancellor: Prof. Laila Abubakar

Professor Laila Abubakar holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Nairobi
and an MSc from the European Union Fellowship. She has extensive research
experience and has supervised numerous postgraduate students. A distinguished
academic leader, she has received several research grants and is committed to
advancing higher education in Kenya.
