Taita Taveta University, located in Taita-Taveta County, Kenya, began operations in 2007 as a constituent college of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). It gained full university status in 2016 under the Universities Act, No. 42 of 2012. The university specializes in mining, mineral processing, and engineering programs, addressing the unique needs of the region’s natural resources. With a commitment to innovation, research, and community engagement, it also offers programs in business, social sciences, and education. Taita Taveta University aims to produce skilled graduates for sustainable development.

Vice-Chancellor: Prof. Fred Simiyu Barasa

Prof. Fred Simiyu Barasa is the current Vice-Chancellor of Taita Taveta University,
having served since 2021. He holds a PhD in Management and has over 25 years of
experience in academia. Prof. Barasa has previously held various leadership roles,
focusing on academic excellence, research, and entrepreneurial development.
