The Commission for University Education (CUE), established under the Universities Act No. 42 of 2012, is Kenya’s regulatory body for university education. Operational since 2013, it ensures quality assurance, accreditation, and compliance of universities with established standards. CUE develops policies, monitors curricula, and oversees the establishment of new universities. It also facilitates collaboration between universities, government, and industry to enhance higher education. Through its mandate, CUE safeguards academic excellence and promotes global competitiveness, supporting Kenya’s vision of a robust and innovative university education system.

Prof. Mike Kuria, the CEO of the Commission for University Education, holds a PhD in
Literature. He previously served as Deputy Executive Secretary at the Inter-University
Council for East Africa and was the founding Director of the Center for Quality Assurance at a leading Kenyan university, championing academic excellence and quality standards.

Functions
