Kenya School of TVET

Overview

The Kenya School of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), established under the TVET Act, 2013, began operations in 2015. The institution is designed to build capacity for the development, delivery, and quality assurance of technical and vocational education in Kenya. It plays a key role in enhancing the skills of trainers, providing professional development programs, and fostering collaboration among TVET institutions. The school is vital in equipping individuals with the necessary skills to meet the labor market demands, contributing to the country’s socio-economic development.

CEO: Dr. Edwin Tarno, PhD, HSC, FEnv

Dr. Edwin Tarno is the CEO of the Kenya School of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). He holds a PhD and has extensive experience in education management. Dr. Tarno has led various educational initiatives and has contributed to the development and implementation of technical education programs in Kenya.

Functions

  • Capacity Building: Enhances the professional development of trainers in technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
  • Curriculum Development: Assists in the development and review of TVET curricula to meet industry standards and national needs.
  • Research and Innovation: Conducts research to improve the quality of TVET and to introduce innovations in education and training methodologies.
  • Training and Development: Provides training for TVET managers, instructors, and other stakeholders to improve skills and knowledge.
  • Quality Assurance: Develops and implements mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating the quality of TVET programs.
  • Advocacy and Awareness: Promotes the importance of TVET in Kenya’s development through awareness campaigns.
  • Policy Formulation Support: Advises the government on policy matters related to TVET, contributing to national educational strategies.
  • Partnerships and Collaboration: Builds collaborations with local and international organizations to enhance TVET delivery.
  • Certification and Accreditation: Supports the certification and accreditation of TVET institutions to ensure standards are met.
  • Skills Development: Focuses on developing skills in line with labor market demands, promoting employability and self-employment opportunities.
