The Car Loan Scheme for Electoral Commissioners Fund was established under the Elections (Car Loan Scheme for Commissioners) Act, 2003 to provide financial assistance to commissioners of the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK), the predecessor of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). The scheme aimed to facilitate the purchase of vehicles for electoral commissioners during their tenure. It began operations around 2003, before the IEBC took over the electoral responsibilities in 2011. The scheme is designed to support commissioners in performing their duties effectively during their term in office.
