The Victims Protection Board (VPB) in Kenya was established under the Victim Protection Act, 2014, to ensure the protection and rights of crime victims. It provides policies and programs to assist victims, coordinates stakeholder activities, administers the Victim Protection Fund, and offers legal support. The Board also works to promote public awareness, facilitates compensation or restitution, and monitors compliance with the Act. Additionally, it conducts research to improve victim services and supports capacity building among stakeholders to enhance their ability to respond to victim needs effectively.

Mary Wairagu is the Chief Executive Officer of the Victim Protection Board in Kenya. She holds a law degree and brings a wealth of experience in legal practice. Wairagu oversees the Board’s initiatives aimed at ensuring the protection, support, and legal rights of crime victims across Kenya.
Functions
- Develop Policies and Programs: Formulate policies and programs to protect and assist victims of crime.
