The Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI), established under the Nutritionists and Dieticians Act, 2007, is the regulatory body
overseeing the nutrition and dietetics profession in Kenya. KNDI’s mandate includes registering qualified professionals, approving training
programs, and setting standards for academic and professional practice. The institute licenses practitioners, enforces disciplinary measures, develops relevant policies, and promotes public awareness of nutrition’s role in health. Additionally, KNDI advises the government on nutrition issues and supports research to enhance public health through better nutrition standards and practices.

CEO: Dr David Okeyo

Dr. David Okeyo holds a PhD in Nutrition from the University of Nairobi and has over a decade of experience in public health and
nutrition. His expertise includes nutrition program development and implementation, policy formulation, and capacity building, aimed at enhancing nutrition standards and practices in Kenya.

Functions

  • Regulate the Practice: Establish and enforce standards for the professional practice of nutritionists and dieticians in Kenya.
  • Register Professionals: Register qualified nutritionists and dieticians to practice in the country.
  • Approve Training Programs: Approve and accredit educational and training programs for nutritionists and dieticians.
  • Set Standards of Training: Establish academic and practical training standards to ensure competency in the field.
  • License Practitioners: Issue practicing licenses to registered nutritionists and dieticians.
  • Disciplinary Actions: Enforce disciplinary measures on practitioners who violate professional or ethical standards.
  • Develop Policies: Formulate and implement policies to guide the nutrition and dietetics profession.
  • Public Awareness: Promote awareness of the importance of nutrition and dietetics in public health.
  • Advise Government: Offer expert advice on nutrition and dietetics matters to the Kenyan government and related stakeholders.
  • Promote Research: Support and encourage research in nutrition and dietetics to advance the profession and public health.
