Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), based in Eldoret, began operations in 1917 as a district hospital and was upgraded to a national referral hospital in. It serves as Kenya’s second-largest referral center, reducing the burden on Kenyatta National Hospital. MTRH provides specialized healthcare, training for medical professionals in collaboration with Moi University, and supports biomedical research. Its roles also include outpatient and inpatient care, palliative services, rehabilitation, public health interventions, and community outreach. MTRH partners with local and international institutions to enhance service delivery and medical innovations.

Dr. Philip Kirwa, the CEO of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nairobi, graduating in 1995. He later earned a Master’s in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the same institution in 2004. With over 28 years of experience, Dr. Kirwa has worked in various roles at MTRH, including as a medical officer and resident gynecologist, before rising to his current position.
