Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), Kenya’s largest referral and teaching hospital, began operations in 1901 as the Native Civil Hospital. It was renamed in 1964 in honor of Jomo Kenyatta, the first president of Kenya. KNH’s mandate includes providing specialized medical care, training healthcare professionals, conducting medical research, and offering public health services. It also serves as a critical center for emergency and trauma care, advanced surgeries, and rehabilitation services. KNH partners with universities and international health organizations to enhance healthcare delivery and research efforts across Kenya.

Dr. Evanson N. Kamuri, CBS, is the CEO of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). He holds a medical degree from the University of Nairobi and has extensive experience in healthcare management. Dr. Kamuri initially served in an acting capacity before his official appointment as CEO in 2019. His leadership has been pivotal during the COVID-19 pandemic, overseeing critical service delivery and expansion efforts at KNH.
