Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS)

Overview

The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) was established in 1974 under the Standards Act (Cap 496) of the Laws of Kenya. Its primary mandate is to promote standardization in industry and commerce to ensure product quality and safety. KEBS provides testing, certification, and calibration services, develops specifications, and regulates the use of standardization marks. The agency also engages in educational initiatives and collaborates with various stakeholders to enhance quality assurance and facilitate trade. Through these efforts, KEBS plays a crucial role in consumer protection and the promotion of sustainable economic growth in Kenya

CEO: Esther Ngari

Esther Njeri Ngari is the CEO of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), appointed in October 2023. She holds a degree in Food Science and Technology and has extensive experience in quality assurance. Ngari has significantly contributed to developing standards and policies that enhance product quality and safety in Kenya.

Functions
