Established in 1946 by The Salvation Army, Thika Primary School for the Blind is the oldest and largest institution for visually impaired learners in Kenya. Originally a rehabilitation center for Second World War veterans, it transitioned into a primary school in 1954 and today serves roughly 350 students from nursery through Junior Secondary levels. The school provides a comprehensive curriculum that blends standard academic subjects with specialized training in Braille literacy, orientation and mobility skills, and digital literacy through dedicated assistive technology labs. Beyond academics, it is a recognized center for talent, fostering student independence through robust programs in music, spoken word, and vocational skills.
