St. Elizabeth Lunga Lunga is a prominent four-stream primary school and Early Childhood Centre located in the Mukuru slum of Nairobi, managed by the Sisters of Mercy under the Mukuru Promotion Centre (MPC). Established in 1991 to serve one of the city’s most underserved communities, the school has grown into the largest of MPC’s four primary institutions, with a 2026 enrolment exceeding 1,800 pupils. The campus features permanent infrastructure, including 40 classrooms, a multipurpose hall, and specialized facilities designed for accessibility, such as ramps and wheelchair-accessible toilets. Beyond its core academic curriculum—which is currently transitioning to the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework—the school is nationally recognized for its excellence in performing arts, particularly its choir, which has performed at State House for the President of Kenya. To support the holistic development of its students, the school provides integrated social services, including counseling, child protection programs, and a feeding program that ensures students receive daily meals despite the challenges of poverty and periodic flooding in the surrounding Viwandani area.
