Established in 1964 by the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity, Edelvale Primary School is a mixed public day school situated within the serene Edelvale Trust compound in the Donholm/Umoja area of Nairobi. Originally founded to provide education for children from the Soweto slums in Kayole, it was handed over to the Nairobi City Council in 1970 and now serves a diverse student body of approximately 700 to over 1,200 pupils from surrounding neighborhoods like Tassia and Donholm Phase 8. The school is deeply rooted in its history of social welfare and Christian values, focusing on nurturing morally upright and academically competent children. Recent infrastructure developments, supported by the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), have introduced a multipurpose hall with a modern kitchen and performance stage, as well as a school bus to facilitate student transport. Despite challenges like high pupil-to-teacher ratios and the need for further administrative facilities, the school remains a vital educational hub for marginalized communities in the Embakasi East region.
