Kwa Njenga Primary

Located in the heart of the Mukuru Kwa Njenga informal settlement in Nairobi, Kwa Njenga Primary School is a critical public institution providing education to over 1,600 students from predominantly disadvantaged households. As of 2025, the school has undergone significant infrastructural upgrades to address severe congestion and historical resource shortages, most notably through the April 2025 commissioning of eight new state-of-the-art classrooms and three ablution blocks funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. Despite these additions, the school continues to grapple with the demands of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), particularly in securing adequate facilities for Grade 9 transitions. Beyond academics, the school serves as a community hub, hosting essential feeding programs that provide many students with their only daily meal and engaging in innovative sustainability projects like student-led waste management and vegetable gardening.
