Dr. Livingstone Primary

Dr. Livingstone Primary School, located in the Jerusalem Estate area of Nairobi, Kenya, is a public, mixed-gender day school with a history dating back to its establishment by the colonial government in 1957 to enhance education for African children. Situated on an expansive 5-acre piece of land in the Kamukunji constituency, the school serves a student population largely drawn from nearby slum areas. While the school has grown, with its population reaching over 1100 pupils at one point, it faces challenges typical of under-resourced areas, such as a need for improved infrastructure, including a dedicated library. Nonetheless, the school has made significant strides, demonstrating an improved mean performance score in recent years and receiving support from community initiatives and local government for facility upgrades, including the rehabilitation of classrooms and the introduction of laptops and tablets to set up a resource centre.
