The Pest Control Products Board (PCPB) was established in 1986 under the Pest Control Products Act, Cap 346 of the Laws of Kenya. Its mandate is to regulate and control the importation, sale, distribution, and use of pest control products, ensuring they are safe, effective, and environmentally friendly. The Board is responsible for registering pest control products, conducting safety assessments, and promoting public health and environmental protection. By overseeing the quality of pest control products, the PCPB contributes to enhanced agricultural productivity, disease prevention, and overall public safety.

Mr. Fredrick holds an Executive MBA and a BSc in Chemistry and Biochemistry. With extensive experience in pesticide regulation, he previously served as the Acting General Manager of Registration at PCPB. He has played a key role in policy development, product registration, and ensuring compliance in the pest control industry.

Functions

  • Registration of Pest Control Products – Registers all pest control products for importation, sale, and use in Kenya.
  • Regulation of Pest Control Products – Ensures that pest control products meet safety and efficacy standards.
  • Monitoring and Inspection – Monitors the use and distribution of pest control products to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Safety Assessments – Conducts safety evaluations to assess the impact of pest control products on human health, animals, and the environment.
  • Public Awareness – Educates the public, farmers, and pest control operators on the safe use of pest control products.
  • Licensing and Certification – Issues licenses and certificates for pest control operators, retailers, and manufacturers.
  • Promotion of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) – Encourages environmentally sustainable pest control practices.
  • Enforcement of Regulations – Takes action against non-compliant individuals and businesses in the pest control industry.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders – Works with government agencies, international bodies, and private sector partners to ensure safe pest control practices.
  • Research and Development – Promotes research into alternative, safer pest control methods and new products for the agricultural sector.
