The Kenya Seed Company was established in 1956 under the Kenya Seed Act, Cap 323 to produce, multiply, and distribute high-quality, certified seeds to farmers. The company plays a crucial role in supporting agricultural productivity and food security in Kenya by providing improved seed varieties for crops, including maize, beans, and vegetables. Kenya Seed Company ensures the availability of seeds that enhance farm yields, sustainability, and resilience. It is also involved in research and development, collaborating with stakeholders to address emerging agricultural challenges and improve seed quality in the country.

Mr. Chepsiror holds an MBA in Strategic Management, a Master of Management and Leadership, a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing, and a Diploma in Management & Development. With over 25 years of experience in strategic marketing, sales, operations, banking, and customer service management, he has previously served as Sales and Marketing Manager at Simlaw Seeds Company and has a background in the banking sector.

Functions

  • Seed Production – Produces certified seeds for various crops including maize, beans, vegetables, and more.
  • Seed Distribution – Supplies high-quality seeds to farmers across Kenya, ensuring availability of improved seed varieties.
  • Research and Development – Conducts research to develop new, high-yielding and disease-resistant seed varieties.
  • Collaboration with Farmers – Works closely with farmers to ensure access to quality seeds for improved crop production.
  • Agro-Input Services – Provides other essential agricultural inputs, such as fertilizers, to complement seed distribution.
  • Training and Extension Services – Educates farmers on seed selection, planting techniques, and crop management.
  • Quality Assurance – Ensures that all seeds meet required standards for quality, purity, and germination.
  • Export of Seeds – Promotes the export of Kenyan seeds to regional and international markets.
  • Promotion of Sustainable Agriculture – Supports eco-friendly and sustainable farming practices through improved seed varieties.
  • Support for Food Security – Contributes to food security by improving agricultural yields through the distribution of high-quality seeds.
